The Department of Revenue is conducting a hiring day on May 9, 2018 to fill several Excise Tax Examiner positions within the Taxpayer Account Administration (TAA) Division in Tumwater, WA. We are looking for highly motivated individuals who are interested in starting a career with our Revenue Team.
Although the Hiring Day is scheduled for May 9, 2018, the hiring process may start as early as April 23, 2018. Please expect to be contacted at any time after April 23, 2018.
How does a hiring day work?

- Successful candidates will receive information prior to the May 9, 2018 with instructions about the on-site hiring day.
What Excise Tax Examiners do Each year, more than 500,000 businesses registered with the state of Washington file 2.3 million tax returns. Excise Tax Examiners assist taxpayers or their representatives to file tax returns, answer questions on correct tax reporting, applicable tax laws and recordkeeping requirements. They also review and reconcile accounts, determine eligibility for tax credits and preferences, and administer tax programs.
Our in-training program provides classroom training on excise tax laws and rules, Department of Revenue systems, tax programs, customer service skills, and account examination procedures and techniques. Revenue trainers will guide you as you perform account examinations, billings and refunds, and assist taxpayers on the phone or via secure email. After successful completion of the in-training program, you will be assigned to a team of experienced examiners. Each team in TAA performs the core functions of assisting taxpayers and reconciling accounts, in addition to administering one or more excise tax programs.
How you may qualify
*_At the ETE1 and ETE2 levels: Accounting, Auditing, Excise Tax Assistant or equivalent experience will substitute year for year for education providing required 12-semester or 18-quarter college level accounting course work has been completed or is within one course of completion._ *
