Summary of Duties

Washington State University, Tri-Cities campus, invites applications for a resident faculty position at the rank of Instructor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in teaching statistics. The successful candidate will be expected to utilize high impact, student centered pedagogical practices in all courses and be informed on current research-based practices in mathematics education used to foster student success.

The division of responsibilities in this mathematics faculty position will be 80% teaching (a respective teaching load of four courses per Fall and Spring semester) and 20% service. Service activities include mentoring undergraduate student research, participation in campus student recruitment, and/or participation in faculty governance committee work.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Teach undergraduate statistics and probability courses and one basic mathematics course The specific courses will include Basic Mathematics (MATH 100), Introduction to Statistical Methods (STAT 212); Probability and Statistics (MATH 360); Introductory Statistics for Engineers (STAT 370); Statistical Methods in Research (STAT 412)

Additional Information

This faculty position is a 9-month, temporary, non-tenure track appointment made initially for one year. The position is available for the start of the Fall 2018 semester. Appointment will begin August 16, 2018 and end May 15, 2019. Position is 1.0 FTE and will be eligible for benefits. Salary is commensurate with training and experience.

Required Qualifications

Earned doctorate in mathematics or related field involving significant quantitative skills

Record of teaching experience

Expertise in teaching statistics and basic math courses

Preferred Qualifications

Experience implementing high impact practices for teaching math courses

Experience with mentoring college students
