We are currently seeking an On-Call Deckhand to join our growing team!
Be responsible for the Safe and effective navigation and operation, of various types of workboats in the support of planned and emergency response projects. Operate workboats for deploying, retrieving and working with oil containment boom and various other pieces of equipment. Respond to emergency situations as needed as well as scheduled marine projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure all safety and job related equipment is in good working order at all times.
Safely operate workboats during deployment, towing, and anchoring of oil spill containment boom and other equipment
Maintain all vessel equipment in good working order and ensure that vessel is clean, well stocked with supplies and spare parts at all times.
Assist in other types of spill clean up activities as needed or available. These duties may be land or marine related for both planned and emergency response project work. Potential for dirty and physically demanding work environment.
As an employee of a 24/7 emergency response company, you may be required to wear a respirator and you must comply with the Company facial hair policy. Because you are subject to emergency callout without warning, you must be clean shaven and ready for the immediate donning of a respirator at all times.
Must be able to work in often undesirable conditions, in inclement weather while being exposed to dust, fumes, dirt, heat, cold, noise, vibrations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
Needs a background in marine activities including anchoring, towing, pumping, and oil transfer.
Must demonstrate ability to operate a small boat for deploying, retrieving and working with oil containment boom; ability to run oil skimmers.
Must be able to conduct basic maintenance and trouble shoot small workboats and skimmers.
24 Hour Hazwoper is preferred.
A valid Oregon or Washington Driver’s License is required with a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) that meets the NRC Business Driving standards.
A Class C or higher driver’s license with placarded materials endorsement is beneficial. Must have knowledge of local waterways.
The employee has the potential to travel out of town on short notice for extended periods of time.
