This job contributes to REI’s success by providing creative design leadership and management in physical environments.Lead the creative design, management, and execution of divisional and cross-divisional projects that enhance the REI brand both within stores and on other platform opportunities. Drive and foster design collaboration to ensure a successful outcome to a variety of projects. This job is expected to keep up to date with trends and explore new opportunities to translate the brand. Models and acts in accordance with REI’s guiding values and mission.
Build creative briefs and design intent for physical experiences that support the brand narrative, marketing campaigns, merchant seasonal strategies and outdoor program classes/events.
Works with Manager, Director, DVP and other Sr. leadership on creative briefs and design intent/direction.
Activity builds a strong and positive design collaborative environment within teamandcross -divisionalpartners.
Ability to influence work inside and outside of the Visual Merchandising teams.
Establishes and maintains project visibility within the department and cross -divisionally.
Fosters a culture of creativity, design excellence, accountability andresults.
Works collaboratively with teamto support the goals of the project and the brand.
Collaborates with retail, marketing, merchandising and OPO to provide activity shop creative briefs to SVMs.
Inspire visual team to meet or exceed REI creative standards of innovation and design.
Provide mentorship to teamin all areas of visual merchandising, product presentation, content communication and overall customer experience in a built environment.
Manage and oversee content development of VM Guidebook.
May oversee or supervise four to six employees.
Advise and/or participate in the design development/evolution of new and existing store elements and fixtures.
Bring your passion and expertise
10+ years of visual, space planning, fixture and experiential design in the retail environment.
10+ years cross-divisional planning, project management experience in a retail environment preferable
BA in Architecture or Interior Design or AA,preferred
Design and visual merchandising experience in a multi-store environment
Project management skills including scheduling, measurement, reporting and financial management
Ability to travel nationally for installations and inspiration
Ability to create and maintain process systems, documentation and support tools
Basic Computer Skills: Word, Excel, Outlook, InDesign, Photoshop and drawing program to communicate designs.
