The Boeing Company Industrial Controls and Robotics Engineer for 777X in Everett, Washington

Boeing Commercial Airplanes is seeking an Industrial Controls and Robotics Engineer to support 777X Production Engineering in Everett, WA.

The 777X production engineering team is looking to hire an engineer to help drive equipment reliability and performance with a focus on total productive maintenance. The most successful candidates will have a combination of production system equipment engineering expertise in concert with computer/software engineering skills. Experience working with and maintaining complex and highly automated equipment is desirable.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Architect, define, plan, implement and support the robotic and automation equipment to build airplanes

  • Program, integrate and troubleshoot industrial robots from well-known Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) including Kuka, ABB, and Fanuc

  • Program, integrate, and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Numerical Controls (NC), Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), and Drives from Siemens or Allen Bradley.

  • Optimize complex robotics and automation equipment for safety, ergonomics, quality, flow, reliability, and maintainability

  • Evaluates program and project requirements, develops complex equipment and tooling concepts and designs solutions for the Production System.

  • Compiles and analyzes technical data to determine the effects on product engineering design and rate estimates, identifies robotics, automation or technology recommendations and system integration for equipment and tooling.

  • Ensures compliance with safety, producibility, maintainability, reliability, ergonomic factors and regulatory requirements.

  • Validates contractual performance milestones, maintains configuration control, conducts reviews, prepares plans for productions readiness, preventative maintenance, and spares.

  • Conducts training for Production and Maintenance personnel.

  • Develops and implements work-arounds and maintains configuration of hardware, software and documentation.

  • Performs studies and make recommendation for disposition of assets.

The successful candidate will have the following education, experience, skills and capabilities.

Required qualifications:

Minimum 3 years of experience with the following:

  • PLC programming, Siemens and/or FANUC, CNC logic and/or experience programming equipment machine controls

  • Working in cross functional teams

  • Hardware and/or software configuration management

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Typical Education & Experience:

Bachelor's and 5 or more years' experience, Master's degree with 3 or more years' experience or PhD degree with experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Programming, integrating or troubleshooting industrial robots from OEMs such as Kuka, ABB, and Fanuc, and/or PLCs, NCs, HMIs, and Drives such as Siemens or Allen Bradley

  • Experience with industry standards including electrical and safety codes

  • Experience generating system specifications from production system requirements

  • Experience with hardware or software configuration management

  • Managing projectsExperience communicating, collaborating, coaching and mentoring others
