UX Design Manager – Premium Shopping Experience, Amazon Devices

Amazon Devices is the team behind Kindle E-reader, Fire Tablet, Fire TV, Amazon Echo, Dash Button, and other new innovations. We are currently seeking a high-performing, innovative, experienced, results- and detail-oriented Sr. UX Manager to lead our omni-channel User Experience and Research team to build premium shopping experiences for Amazon Devices. We are a global multi-channel organization building platforms and programs to support new product launches, device sales, and engagement in physical retail, web, mobile, and voice. As the Sr. UX Manager on Amazon Devices, you will manage a team of high performing UX Designers, Design Technologists, and User Researchers. The team defines and designs UX interfaces across platforms (desktop, tablet, mobile) for the Amazon Devices online shopping experience, toolsets to streamline processes and create internal efficiencies, and technology deployed into physical retail to support Amazon Device sales. They execute user research to understand customer behavioral patterns that change the course of our programs or inspire us to build entirely new ones. As the manager, you will work in a highly collaborative and fast-paced environment, working closely with product management, engineering, marketing, and company leaders to go from early stage concepts to launch. You will manage workflow across the entire team, be a stakeholder in business reviews, and manage priorities, capacity, and delivering results.

You will be able to explore multiple design solutions to a given problem or feature, and communicate those solutions visually through sketches, user flows, wireframes, functional prototypes, and/or high-fidelity designs, as necessary. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of UX Designers, Design Technologists, and User Researchers.

  • Present work to design, product, marketing, and technical peers and facilitate effective feedback mechanisms.

  • Present designs to executive level management to gain commitment on approach.

  • Proactively assess and recommend improvements to the user experience based on qual and quant data.

  • Collaborate with product management to drive business requirements, scenarios, and use cases.

  • Identify opportunities to share design patterns and functionality across Amazon and develop and nurture relationships across teams and disciplines to promote collaboration and efficiency on Amazon projects.

  • Work with technical teams to identify and creatively solve for difficult technical challenges.

  • Advocate for usability, design and innovation within the organization.

  • Stay current on emerging technologies and identify opportunities to incorporate best current thinking into product designs.

  • 5+ years of experience as a UX Design Manager, Interaction Design Manager, or similar role.

  • A Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), or equivalent professional experience.

  • An online portfolio or samples of work demonstrating experience leading teams that create user-centered design solutions and patterns, across desktop and mobile platforms.

  • Has been responsible for driving design review cycles and closing on design requirements independently.

  • 3+ years experience with iterative design, working closely with customers, peers, engineering, and leadership from inception through implementation.

  • Experience working cross-team and synthesize feedback and input from product management, engineering, and marketing.

  • A Masters degree in Design, Information Science, Computer Science/HCI, or a design-related discipline (eg. cognitive psychology).

  • Experience owning and managing a multi-platform entire user experience from customer acquisition to customer service, ideally within e-commerce.

  • Fluency in best practices for mobile and web-based information architecture and design, as well as knowledge of usability principles and techniques.

  • Experience designing internal tools to help streamline processes and create more efficient workstreams for internal stakeholders and customers.

  • Communication, presentation, writing, and interpersonal skills: can visualize design problems and abstract information and articulate it in ways that are easy for other team members to comprehend.

  • Attention to detail including customer communications and ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously.

  • Demonstrated ability to present strategic concepts, evaluate tradeoffs and socialize new ideas with business partners.

  • Proven track record of taking ownership and successfully delivering results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • An informed set of core values regarding user experience, technology, and business communication and the ability to present them with eloquence and concision.
