At AWS, we operate with the full backing of one of the world's most successful web companies. Amazon seeks a Data Engineer to play a key role on the AWS Central Finance team. This position will play a key role in building data warehousing back-end solutions to support financial and operational reports and business critical analyses for the AWS leadership team. Projects have high visibility to the CEO, senior business leaders in AWS, and extensive collaboration across multiple DE/BI teams within AWS services. This role requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, a keen attention to detail, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, a strong understanding of finance, and the independence and entrepreneurial ability to work with minimal direction and rapid prototyping. As a data engineer on this team, you will get the exciting opportunity to work on very large data sets and complex data warehouse environments. You will be assisting with building out Redshift as our primary data warehouse solution to create the curated data models for the AWS business to leverage. You will also help us buildout and deploy AWS QuickSight as our BI Presentation Layer for our business partners. In this role, you will: * Recognize and adopt best practices in data warehousing and business intelligence: design, testing, version control, documentation, build, deployment, and operations. * Write high quality, maintainable, and robust code, often in SQL, PL/SQL, or MDX. * Recognize and use design patterns to solve business problems. * Own the design, development, and maintenance of scalable/automated/user-friendly back and front-end systems to support ongoing metrics, reports, analyses, dashboards, etc. which drive key business decisions. * Collaborate across the business and finance organizations to develop best practices for your function and advocate for improvements in enterprise-wide tools * Have an understanding and empathy for business objectives, and continually align your work with those objectives and seek to deliver business value. Basic Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics or related technical field - 5+ years' industry experience in data modeling, ETL development, and Data Warehousing - Previous experience working as a Data Engineer, Business Intelligence Engineer or Data Scientist with a track record of manipulating, processing and extracting value from large datasets - Proficient in SQL/Postgres SQL, and Excel Preferred Qualifications- Experience contributing to data engineering best practices, recommending changes in development, training, maintenance, and system standards - Experience working with business intelligence tools such as Cognos, MicroStrategy, R, Tableau, Oracle BI, Pentaho, SSRS, etc. - Experience with AWS technologies such as Redshift, RDS, EMR, S3, etc. - Experience in developing and deploying DataMart or data cube solutions - Coding proficiency in one modern programming language (e.g. Python, Ruby, and Java) is desired - 3+ years development experience with notable BI reporting tools (e.g. OBIEE, Cognos) - Superior attention to detail and ability to successfully manage multiple competing priorities simultaneously - Advanced analytical skills and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple large scale projects in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment - Strong interpersonal skills, including written and oral communication skills - Experience e
