Amazon.com Senior Vendor Manager, Branded Gift Cards in Seattle, Washington

The Gift Card team at Amazon is looking for a vendor manager with proven experience in strategy, negotiation, and account management for its Branded Gift Card business. The Vendor Manager would be responsible for setting the strategic direction for the category, focusing on customer experience, selection growth, pricing, and profitability. He/She serves as a primary advocate for our customer and must understand the competitive and industry landscape. Vendor Manager will partner with leaders in Product Management, Software Development, Inventory Management and Finance to deliver category goals.

The ideal candidate is a thought leader on new initiatives and has strong business judgment, with a track record of successful negotiations and overall relationship management. Proven analytical thinking, project management skills, attention to detail, and exceptional organizational skills are must. The right candidate stays on top of industry and competitive trends, and is able to execute at both a tactical and strategic level. He/She will be responsible for building direct relationships with key suppliers, selection growth, negotiating pricing, developing marketing programs that drive growth, and identifying new business opportunities. The Vendor Manager must be a self-starter and effective communicator with strong analytical and process driven background.

The individual will be responsible for the following:

  • Manage a full P&L, including planning, forecasting and driving growth for the category, possessing a complete understanding of internal and external variables that impact the business.

  • Set goals and direction for the department, ensuring alignment with broader business goals.

  • Drive strategic negotiations with external vendors and represent Amazon when meeting with Senior Executives from partners.

  • Improve the customer experience by helping customers navigate digital and physical waters, optimize our mobile offering.

  • Identify industry trends and develop innovative product initiatives to support growth.

  • Generate and implement big ideas to drive business improvement, innovation, and scale within the category and across the retail business as a whole.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams that support business needs, including both technical and non-technical teams.

    The successful candidate must be highly organized and have extensive knowledge of MS Office (particularly Excel). This candidate should have experience in product management, planning, forecasting, and a background in retail or e-commerce. They must be able to work in a highly demanding but collegial environment where teamwork is a must. The right candidate will be flexible, action and results oriented, and a self-starter. They must also be decisive and able to move with speed to implement their own ideas.

    The position requires an individual who can work autonomously in a fast paced and often ambiguous environment, with strong attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills. The candidate must also possess strong analytical acumen and be comfortable generating and evaluating forecasts, metrics, and analyses. The candidate should be adept at problem-solving and managing multiple priorities effectively and efficiently. Communication skills (both oral and written) are also key.

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 5+ years in business management/product sourcing/product development or 3+ years of relevant experience with an MBA

  • Proven track record of owning and delivering innovative customer-facing products

  • Demonstrated ability to engage and influence people and teams at every level in the organization

  • Strong verbal/written communication and data presentation skills, including an ability to effectively communicate with both internal and external teams

  • Analytical and quantitative skills; ability to use hard data and metrics to back up assumptions, recommendations, and drive actions

  • MBA degree; Bachelor’s degree in Business Management or a similar field

  • A high level of business acumen, including successful product management

  • Ability to think and influence both quantitatively and qualitatively

  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to roll up sleeves and execute to get the job done

  • Ability to work successfully in an ever-changing environment with competing priorities

  • Demonstrated track record of creative problem solving; thinks big, starts small, grows fast

  • Strong attention to detail, excellent organization skills, and ability to manage multiple projects /responsibilities
