King County Washington Public Health Nurse - Juvenile (Occupational Health RN) in Seattle, Washington
Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention (DAJD) is seeking a highly motivated individual to occupy the position of Occupational Health Nurse (Public Health RN-Juvenile) for our Juvenile Division. This position would primarily be responsible for Occupational Health duties for the staff that provide direct care to youth detainees. This position reports to the Department of Adult & Juvenile Detention (DAJD) Juvenile Division Health Services Manager.
This position is primarily responsible for implementing OSHA/WISHA requirements for employees who provide direct care and supervision to adolescent detainees at the Juvenile Detention facility and for implementing an infection control program for employees and the detainee population. Work is performed within the secure perimeter of a detention facility with youth detainee contact. Incumbents of this position must effectively conduct time management, problem solving, multi-tasking, and prioritizing to manage anticipated workload.
The Juvenile Division Health Services team works within the secure perimeter of the King County Juvenile Detention Facility. DAJD is a professional and nationally recognized organization that supports safe, vibrant, and healthy communities in partnership with other criminal justice and human service agencies. DAJD is comprised of five divisions, including the Juvenile Detention Division. The department's mission is to provide safe, secure and humane detention.

WORK LOCATION: DAJD Juvenile Division, Juvenile Detention Services, 1211 E. Alder, Seattle, WA. Work is performed within the secure perimeter of a detention facility with youth detainee contact.
WORK SCHEDULE: This is a 20-hour per week position. The typical work schedule is Tuesday through Thursday, working between 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (1000-1800)*.* However the schedule may be changed to meet changing occupational health needs of the Juvenile Division. Employees in this classification are expected to occasionally be available to meet and work with employees who work other shifts and days, including employees who work evening and grave shifts (from 2300 to 0700) and weekends.

- Maintain current knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Washington Industrial Safety and Health Administration (WISHA) requirements. Develop policies and procedures to assure DAJD employee health/safety and to prevent work related injuries and illnesses. Coordinate with King County Industrial Hygienist and DAJD Adult Division Occupational Health and Infection Control providers.
- Initiate, perform, document and evaluate WISHA-mandated responsibilities regarding tuberculosis control and respiratory protection, including but not limited to: a.) assuring new and current employee TB skin testing; b.) referring for chest x-ray where appropriate; c.) evaluating employees for respiratory clearance; d.) conducting annual respiratory fit-testing and training others to be fit-testers; e.) coordinating annual respiratory hazard evaluations, f.) maintaining records and documentation of the above and providing regular reports to Quality Assurance Committee.
- Comply with substantial exposure policies to: a.) determine whether or not a substantial exposure has occurred, b.) facilitate referrals to care as appropriate, c.) provide follow-up education to staff who have experienced a substantial exposure.
- Initiate, perform, document, and evaluate employee work related contact investigations for specific communicable diseases, including but not limited to active TB, varicella, and measles.
- Initiate, perform, document and evaluate WISHA-mandated responsibilities regarding hepatitis B vaccinations, including but not limited to: a.) identifying appropriate at risk staff; b.) staff vaccinations; c.) record keeping.
- Conduct skills training and develop educational programs regarding standard precautions, and use of personal protective equipment. Conduct employee health and safety campaigns as appropriate with the goal of preventing infectious disease transmission and preventing work-related injuries.
- Maintain data on detainee infections and provide regular reports. Manage detainee vaccination program.
- Participate in work groups and committees including, but not limited to: DAJD Safety Committee, Quality Assurance Committee, DAJD Respiratory Protection Committee, and Infection Control Committee.
- Serve as content expert for health, safety and infection control trainings for DAJD with emphasis for Juvenile Division's needs;
- Implement King County Accident Prevention Program on site.
- Maintain supplies and order vaccinations as applicable.
- Perform other duties as assigned within scope and area of assignment.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills:
Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Washington (in good standing) or ability to be licensed in Washington State prior to start of employment. Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited school; at least one year experience in Occupational Health Nursing or a combination of employee immunization program management, communicable disease prevention and screening, and correctional nursing experience. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and information management systems.
Working knowledge of: Washington State law relating to nursing care (WAC 18.79) and federal health care regulations; professional ethics related to delivery of nursing and allied health services; Nurse Practice guidelines; Patient Bill of Rights; Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) clinical practice guidelines; and an understanding of community health standards.
- Occupational Health promotion and disease prevention.

Current Washington State Registered Nurse license in good standing prior to job offer.

Necessary Special Requirements: The person selected for this position will be required to complete a thorough background investigation process, including fingerprinting, criminal history check, a polygraph examination, psychological evaluation, reference checks, medical physical and other tests as deemed necessary. A valid Washington State Driver's License or alternate ability to travel around the county by time of hire.
