Amazon.com Principal Product Manager - Buying Systems in Seattle, Washington

The Buying Product Management team is a part of Amazon’s global Inventory Planning and Control organization, and is responsible for deciding how much inventory to carry of every single item offered by Amazon Retail on all of Amazon’s websites worldwide. Consuming inputs including demand forecasts, placement options, and vendor capability data, our buying system automatically computes the optimal inventory levels and re-order quantities for every single item in our Retail catalog every single day, submitting POs to our vendors requesting delivery into our fulfillment network. As a Principal Product Manager in Buying, you will operate at the apex of multiple advanced Amazon systems (like Forecasting, Sourcing, Placement), Amazon’s worldwide business and fulfilment operations teams, getting global visibility of how Amazon functions and serves our customers. You will drive the enablement of ever-better customer experiences in shopping and delivery. You will have the mandate to build technology and products that drive ever-greater automation, scalability and optimization of every aspect of buying, removing cost and delivering speed of execution to thrill our customers. The candidate will be responsible for formulating and achieving the vision, strategy and development roadmap for both new and existing Supply Chain optimization products that improve our ability to thrill our customers. You will also be responsible for managing the configuration and roll-out of new products and/or additional features and capabilities in existing products, while owning the essential change management that needs to accompany new product deployments. You will be responsible for establishing creative strategies to track and identify cost savings and impact analysis while optimizing Amazon's inventory to achieve the best experience for our customers at the lowest price. This is a high visibility role that requires partnering with worldwide Retail, Finance and Operations teams to impact our bottom-line.

The successful candidate will be a person who has immense bias for action and an excellent ability to deliver results even in the face of strong headwinds. A person who enjoys and excels at establishing and driving complex projects to successful outcomes, partnering with and influencing sophisticated stakeholders and customers, and bringing structure to ambiguous problems and projects. The successful candidate will have strong organizational and influencing skills and uses data to guide his/her decision-making. The candidate will excel at creating effective metrics to identify the financial impact of solutions and helping the business prioritize its project roadmap for best impact. The goal is to improve the Amazon customer experience through improved selection, product availability, and fulfillment reliability while enhancing profitability.

  • Advanced degree in engineering, operations research, mathematics, or computer science

  • 10-15 years of relevant experience in a technical environment

  • MBA or advanced degree in finance is a strong plus

  • Project/product management experience/ financial/cost-benefit analysis

  • Experience with understanding and documenting complex process flows

  • Excellent analytical, verbal and written communication skills

  • Experience in the design and operation of complex planning systems and processes

  • Independent and Entrepreneurial showing the ability to work with minimal direction

  • Advanced presentation skills and the ability to guide and influence senior leadership

  • High attention to detail and proven track record in taking ownership, driving results and moving with speed to implement ideas in a fast-paced online environment.

  • Experience in advanced supply chain planning and optimization software product management
