Disney Seattle provides centralized technology services for major Disney brands such as ESPN, ABC, Marvel, Parks & Resorts and more. Specifically our Messaging Products enable marketing and communication tools across the Walt Disney Family of companies through multiple channels including PUSH, SMS, E-Mail, inbox, Web Sockets, and more. The Messaging Services team is responsible for developing and managing a suite of industry-leading messaging services that deliver data and content to our guests at high-speed and high-scale across a multitude of platforms and channels.
The Manager of the Messaging Systems Engineering team is responsible for the development and management of a set of mission-critical messaging services used by ESPN, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, ABC, ABC News, ABC OTV, Disney Interactive, Disney International, and other groups across TWDC. These messaging services are responsible for sending billions of messages per year to our guests across multiple channels including mobile Push, web sockets, email and SMS.
Responsibilities : This is a highly involved and highly visible leadership position responsible for a large development team and several large development projects. Primary job responsibilities include:
Partnering with product owner for full suite of message services including Unified Messaging, Outbound Email, Segmentation, Fastcast and Sweepstakes. Responsible for working with product owner to set strategic direction and defining and managing services roadmap, onboarding new customers, and meeting with existing customers to align services roadmap with customer’s product roadmaps.
Drive move to cloud activities for the entire stack of products in the messaging space.
Daily management of mission-critical messaging services in production: provide tier 3 live support and daily engineering support integrated with customer development teams.
Dev manager for multiple concurrent development projects, including development of new services and product evolution for existing services. Responsible for delivering projects on time and on budget.
Managing and mentoring large team of software engineers.
Responsible for operational and functional integrity of messaging services: setting and meeting SLA’s; continuous improvement in quality and performance; developing, monitoring and reporting on key operational and performance metrics.
Providing detailed, timely and highly-relevant reports and reporting tools to all customers of messaging services.
Collaborate closely with multiple indirect reports and peers from partner groups including QA, Customer Solutions, Build Engineering, Business Partner Relations and Operations; as well as close partnership with other engineering teams with interdependent services, including Identity, Data Systems and Content Management.
First-line budget and cost management for messaging services. Responsible for helping set budget and chargeback strategy and responsible for understanding and managing costs of services on a monthly basis.
Basic Qualifications :
Minimum 10 years work experience in software engineering
Minimum 5 years managing software engineering teams
Minimum 2 years experience managing large software engineering teams (more than 12 direct reports) leading complex projects distributed across multiple teams
Minimum 2 years experience as Product Owner of a Tier 1 service
Object-oriented programming in Java or C/C++ Experience developing high-scale web services
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications :
Experience developing high-scale messaging systems
Experience with large data storage systems and technologies (MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis, SQL)
Experience in cloud technologies AWS & Google
Required Education :
- BS/BA degree in Computer Science or other technical field.
Preferred Education :
Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent
Master’s degree in Business Administration
