Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) and EMSL, the Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory, a national scientific user facility sponsored by the U.S. DOE Office of Biological and Environmental Research, seeks a scientist in the area of yeast and fungal genetics and genomics. The incumbent will collaborate in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment with biologists, microscopists, and chemists specializing in a variety of scientific research. The incumbent will be part of a team growing biotechnology, microbiology and synthetic biology at PNNL. In addition, the incumbent will support user projects at EMSL in the areas of microbiology, cell and molecular biology and omics analysis.
The incumbent will be an expert in molecular genetic manipulations of yeast, filamentous fungi and other microbes. The incumbent must be technically versatile to perform experiments across a number of different microbes as needed for programmatic and internally funded projects as well as support the EMSL User Program as needed. The incumbent should possess good oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills. The incumbent will be expected to contribute to ideas and methods expanding on existing R&D and may collaborate on reports, papers, posters, and presentations. The incumbent must also demonstrate initiative, creativity and innovative thinking, and high tolerance for the ambiguity, dynamics, and diversity of work characteristic of a research environment.
Representative duties of the Biologist/ Microbial biotechnologist and geneticist include:
•Filamentous fungal and yeast strain development and characterization
•Develop molecular genetic tools in non-traditional yeast and/or filamentous fungi
•Utilization and/or development of bioinformatics scripts for analysis of genomic and transcriptomic data
Bachelor's degree with at least 5 years experience or a Master's degree with 3 years experience or a PhD with 1-2 years experience.
Must be a skilled professional who applies a broad basis of existing theories, principles, and concepts to a specialty field.
•Candidate must have demonstrated a thorough understanding of yeast and filamentous fungal genetics, genomics and physiology
•Candidate must have experience with scripting for bioinformatics analysis of omic data
•Candidate must have a PhD in biochemistry, genetics, microbiology or a related field and 2-3 years of postdoctoral experience in molecular genetic analysis of yeast and/or filamentous fungi
