ORBIT DETERMINATION ENGINEER OVERVIEW: In order to operate the SpaceX satellite constellation, orbit determination and orbit analysis will play a key role - between supporting safe space flight from possible conjunctions, to managing satellite state from various sources. You are the engineer that other engineers can count on; you are technical; you attack every problem with enthusiasm; you remove hurdles. You are a self-starter, team player, have the hunger to venture into unknown areas to make the system work. RESPONSIBILITIES: Interface with space object tracking services and agencies in support of conjunction avoidance Space object catalog management Conjunction risk analysis Micrometeorite Orbital Debris MMOD characterization and analysis Satellite state management for ground systems Conjunction avoidance operational workflow Communicating conjunction screening workflow to software development team Testing operational systems BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Masters of Science degree in aerospace engineering, physics or computer science PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: Able to build orbit determination applications from first principles Extensive experience working with python/matlab for analytics Familiarity with C/C++ Working knowledge of Linux operating system Creative approach to problem solving and exceptional analytical skills Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment that includes working with changing needs and requirements Excellent communication skills both written and verbal ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be available to work extended hours and weekends as needed ITAR REQUIREMENTS: To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
