About the Agency
The selectee for this position will serve as an Engineering Technician (Nuclear) in the Nuclear Engineering Department of PSNS and IMF.
The successful selectee will perform the following duties:
- Providing technical assistance necessary to Supply and Planning and Estimating Department.
- Preparing engineering instructions for overhaul repair, or modification of nuclear reactor control and instrumentation systems.
- Identifying material requirements, quality level, and inspection requirements.
- Resolving technical problems identified during the receipt inspection, production and testing phases.
- Occasional Travel
- You may be expected to travel for this position.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-09) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: * providing technical engineering guidance in support of ship or submarine maintenance, repair or overhauls on nuclear or radiological equipment.*

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Generally, current Federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Must be able to obtain an interim and/or final (e.g., confidential/secret/top secret, etc.) security clearance prior to entrance on duty AND must be able to maintain the required level of clearance while employed in the subject position. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. Must be willing and able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Work is partly sedentary, although there is occasional exposure to shipyard industrial noise and hazards and regular and recurring onboard ship inspections which may require prolonged walking, stooping, bending, crawling, climbing, vertical ladders and working in confined spaces and temperatures that may exceed 110 degrees Fahrenheit.
Work areas are subject to dust, fumes, radiation, and radioactive contamination.
You will be required to utilize protective devices such as: hard hat, safety goggles or eye glasses, safety shoes, and occasionally anti contamination clothing, masks, and respirators.
