VDC Program Manager Position Description
Work performed with minimal supervision; has considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments. Researches, develops, designs, and manages a variety of technology solutions for the planning, design, construction and operations of large facility and infrastructure programs.
The Jacobs Program Manager of VDC Technology is responsible for researching and standardizing VDC/BIM workflows across our design, construction and Asset Management practice as well as organizing and communicating BIM technical information for a global A/E, EPCM, and CM Practice.
The leader must understand the practice of architecture, engineering and construction in order to support those professionals with the ability to standardize, support and present technology solutions. This includes sales/client-facing presentations and meetings.
Integrate with National VDC Department to contribute to innovation programs and implementation across programs, projects, and offices.
Maintain and develop standardized processes, document best practices, and provide for VDC knowledge sharing within the VDC department and throughout Jacobs.
Establish Standards of Practice and Integrated workflows with a focus on interdisciplinary collaboration and Integrated Project Delivery.
Lead Technology R&D activities and manage Initiatives, including new technology implementations.
Represent Jacobs at select industry, academic, and software vendor events while serving as a VDC ambassador for process transformation.
Support VDC counterparts, and their staff as needed.
Manage, lead, and develop Jacobs VDC staff including: VDC Modelers and VDC Coordinators across the program. Includes performance reviews, management of Individual Development Plan, department meetings, and all the other critical elements that build a team. Identify appropriate resource needs, assign individual responsibilities, and develop department schedules to ensure successful implementation of VDC on projects.
Work with Project Managers and Design Leaders to establish the VDC process for inclusion in the Project Execution Plan.
Develop collaborative project workflows and processes with project partners and VDC staff.
Update, develop, and implement VDC training programs for Designers, Engineers, Project Mangers, Cost Engineering, Schedulers and Field staff.
Challenging current BIM/VDC practices, guiding the resulting technology transformation.
Liaison with IT and project staff to ensure functional and efficient hardware and software setups for staff, at colocation facilities, and on jobsites
Evangelizing design technology applications, promoting solutions, and analyzing application usage metrics.
Provide VDC implementation oversight on projects; develop BIM Execution Plans; and calculate technology ROI and other metrics to Jacobs Business/ Ops Leadership.
Collaborate with project teams to develop a specific project technology approach.
VDC Manager Required Skills and Experience:
Must have a minimum of 8 years' VDC experience leveraging and managing technology in facility and infrastructure design and construction
Ability to collaborate with and motivate established professionals, external partners, and direct reports
Previous experience with management of team and direct reports
Effective leader: articulate, diplomatic, ethical, and dedicated
Good interpersonal skills and commitment to helping others be successful with technology.
Experience with, and passionate about, design technology and skilled in its application and practices to increase user effectiveness
Extensive capabilities with MSOffice, including Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint
Must have extensive knowledge of the nuances, features, functions, and limitations of Autodesk and Bentley 3D/BIM Platforms, including experience with complex workflows involving these platforms
Knowledge of Design-Bid-Build, Design/Build, integrated Project Delivery (IPD) and other modern contractual delivery methods
Proven successful implementations of BIM platform technologies
Understands the Construction industry and maintains knowledge of future trends
Understands project workflows from design, estimation, construction administration and coordination, and fabrication
