Our team builds tools for experimentation with the search engine, particularly in machine learning and information retrieval. The software that we build spans an amazingly interesting range: from hard-core algorithms, to novel UX, to backend systems.

The mission of the Ranking Infrastructure team is to maximize the productivity of Bing’s relevance developers -- the largest group of machine learning experimenters ever assembled. Serving a group unlike any before in history inspires us to create never-before-seen, state-of-the-art platforms and tools. Providing a laboratory for executing experiments was just the beginning - we’ve created unique ecosystem of experimentation. It becomes more powerful with every new experiment. As our users learn more about the behavior of their models, we learn more about the behavior of experimenters. We translate insights we get from that into tools that give Bing a true competitive advantage over competition. The Ranking Infrastructure operates with a mindset that is half scientist and half engineer. We expect candidates to have a range of skills, typically including:
- Solid instincts and practices from 3+ years of software development
- Strong algorithmic problem solving and design skills
- An ability to communicate technical concepts effectively
- A BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Math or EE; PhD a plus
- Experience in information retrieval, machine leaning or data mining a plus
- Expert-level knowledge of Azure, SQL, WCF, MVC 4, HTML5, jQuery, WPF, Windows 8 development is a plus
